EFL is the story of two athletic brothers, Jack and Mack, who take divergent paths through this new world of hall-of-fame chemists, freak players, rogue corporations, and bad dudes, navigating it with an eclectic band of family and friends, leading to love, loss and eventual redemption. Their motivation is simple - a concept as simple as family, but when that family includes their battered and bloody brothers on the front line the choices they make can sometimes be muddy.
At its core EFL is a love story – love of those close to you, love of competition, love of winning, love of the adrenaline spike that comes from pitting your body, heart and soul against another man trying to take it all away.

I was drawn into this book by the premise of legalized and encouraged use of performance enhancing drugs in professional sports. With the preponderance of scandal in cycling, football, and baseball, Zato's plot explores an intriguing futuristic evolution of professional sports if our thirst for physical domination on the playing field remains unchecked by ethical and moral values. His staccato style in prose accents the somewhat disturbing nature of the characters written of and allows the reader to more fully envision the extreme sporting world that they live for. Though this book is written about professional sports(football specifically), it will appeal to nonsporting readers as well. Fans of "the hunger games" will find interest in "EFL" but on a more mature level. I look forward to what is next from Zato.Product details

This was a great book. Really interesting vision of the future of sports and the people involved in the business of sports. The characters were very well thought out and their interactions were clever and witty. I highly recommend it.
Super fun and energetic dialog. Fast moving and rapid fire. Nice blend of concept, character, and plot.
Definitely worth a read, especially in light of the Armstrong madness and the MLB's decision to step up efforts against doping, not to mention the sports writers' choice of making no inductions into the Hall this year.
I'm telling my friends to check it out.
Very entertaining. Couldn't put it down, and highly recommend it. I love football and this had great characters and a good story.
This book was a blast. A lot of fun to read. The characters are clever and well developed. I'm a very casual reader who likes a book to move at a good pace and this one does exactly that. The futuristic world of a drug encouraged sport is a great background for this cool story to unfold. I highly recommend this book and I'm looking forward to future stories by this author.
"Entertaining and fun to read. Had a bit of everything, action, sports, love, family. Once the story kicked in it was hard to put down as I wanted to find out what happened with the brothers. As the plot evolved I got caught up in the way athletics would change if they allowed drug use. Especially with the recent real-world revelations in biking and football it seemed possible that this may be the direction things are headed."
Very intriguing plot-line and interesting way of intertwining the character stories. Wasn’t sure what to expect as it appears this is a new author but it had a unique voice and was well written. I’d read another one from this author.
