Death. Revelation. Danger.
Death was everywhere. He was the face of starving children and the dying crops to the east. He was the river that rushed past the village taking with it any hopes they might have of rebuilding their lives. Lilyth thought she understood. Then Tristan took her to the edge of the village to see her first corpse.
She fell to the ground and he caught her. He held her. He told her that he'd protect her and that there was no need to worry. He was wrong. They were caught between a shadow rolling in through the east and the river swelling up to the west.
This dead man had brought with him a frightening revelation. The entire kingdom was in danger.

Lilyth Book 1 The Shadow Spirits Paradox eBook Tiyana Angel Reviews
This story feels like the first part of a much bigger book. It moves quickly and kicks off the next part of the story so it isn't very substantial. In this land where the water floods and people live on very little food. Lilyth and her grandparents are struggling to survive. There is a darkness coming over the land and stories about what it could be. Could Lilyth be the key?
I received a free copies of the book in exchange for a fair review.
A good story starting to emerge (I only get a few chapters, then to give my opinion of the story) I would for sure read this book. And seeing where this is going would ,most likely go with series of she continues. I can see this being a series of a few more with the two main characters. And we still don't know what she can really do yet,or him either. Let alone if they hook up or not. It is starting to be a interesting read.
I was given a free copy of Lilyth in exchange for an honest review. The story starts with a dream of the flood that took Lilyth's mother. She is raised in a small village by her grandparents. Her best friend is a young man named Tristan. We are given the background to the story in this book. The world is described in vivid detail. The village is described. Unfortunately, we are just getting into the story when the book ends. We have to wait for Book 2 to find out what happens to Lilyth and Tristan. The author has a vivid imagination and is able to draw pictures for us with her words. This is a good book for a younger audience.
The opening scene is one that is haunting. It's about the mc, Lilyth, losing her mother and, from that small intro alone, you get a sense of the darkness surrounding our protagonist. While this book isn't long (quite short actually), it sets the tone for what is sure to be a dark story going forward.
That said, I don't think I'll be following along. The characters didn't really showcase anything that made me really care about them, or what they were going through. There was a scene towards the end that was supposed to hit hard emotionally, but having seen how Lilyth was acting prior to this scene, it just didn't work for me. The premise sounded interesting, but I have to care about the characters to get into a book, and this novella didn't accomplish that. I think I'll bow out here.
I will say that I liked how Death was portrayed in this world and how it affects people. Also, the cover is absolutely gorgeous, so kudos for that.
Tiyana (the author) has a very nice story line, and the books feel like they will reveal many interesting plot twists and character developments. Yet, the author moves the story so quickly that it felt abrupt and surprising. In horror stories, surprise is the author's best friend. But in a fantasy story, I want to be alerted with subtle cues that something is changing. For example, Lilyth and her grandmother bicker at each other when there does not seem to be a reason for it. In addition, her grandfather supports Tiyana and seems to know her fate, and we have no idea why he knows this. Still, it is a good first novel, and worth reading to see how the plot unfolds.
Lilyth has lost her mother and is being raised by her grandparents, but she is haunted by dreams of the flood that took her mother away. Her village is now dwindling, and the men that are left are being drafted to fight a shadow that is menacing the kingdom. At the same time, Lilyth discovers that she is heir to an ancient magic. Will she be able to harness her new-found powers in order to save her friends and family?
"Lilyth" is an entertaining entry into the YA fantasy genre. Compact and brisk-moving, it nonetheless manages to fit in a high-spirited heroine and an action-heavy plot that--cliffhanger warning!--cuts off just at the crucial moment, preparing the reader for book 2.
Although Lilyth's encounters with Death make this story a little bit darker than many YA books that you might encounter, the story has an almost naive freshness to it that may appeal to readers, especially younger readers. In keeping with the compact nature of the narrative, Lilyth and the other characters are sketched out briefly rather than filled in with detail, but this is also likely to appeal to younger readers. Overall, a fun and easy read for those looking for some YA fantasy.
My thanks to the author for providing a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I was offered a free copy for an honest review of this book. What drew me to reading this was the gorgeous cover. And now that I’ve finished this installment, I didn’t see the gorgeously costumed woman with the blue lipstick on the cover appear at any point in this particular book. In the description, it lists it as being dystopian, but I didn’t see any remnants of the modern world anywhere in it. The setting seemed like a basic medieval fantasy-world small village. Also this is listed as book 1, but really we only get an introduction to the characters and the main plot of the story doesn’t come into play until the end where it barely gets started before the book cuts out. In other words, this really is just part 1 of a larger book, rather than a contained Book 1 with continuing elements leading into another book. The grammar is perfect, I didn’t spot any typos, and the author fluidly describes her fantasy world. However I couldn’t stand Lilyth herself. She acted mean, bratty, unreasonable, over-dramatic, always arguing and shouting, storming off in a fury for no reason, and manhandling other characters, shoving them around. It was a bit much for even teenage angst. And it felt like things weren’t explained to the reader all that well at times. Still, I kept with it till the end and I've definitely read worse.
This was really exciting! The pages just flew by. Lilyth and Tristan are wonderful characters and I <3 them. Didn't find any errors really, so I guess it wasn't that bad. Book was great! Can't wait for Book 2.
